Festival of Holi

On July 28th, 2012, in St. Petersburg Russia, there will be a festival called the “Festival of Colors Holi”. The festival will start at 15:00 and more than 7,000 participants are expected to attend. The festival is about body painting and body decorations, which is full of bright emotions, stirring music, and thousands of people united by one idea. In the Indian culture, there is a special tradition that unites all the Indians into one bright-multicolored society, and this is the festival of Holi.

Former tennis world number one Maria Sharapova will be Russia's first female Olympic flag-bearer at the London Games later this month, the national Olympic committee confirmed.

President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov told reporters following the ROC's executive board meeting,

"Sharapova will carry our flag," She was the most worthy candidate among all our athletes.

On Friday, July 13th, there will be a photo shoot of beautiful girls at the Admiralty Fountain. The photo session will include professional photographers, creative image-makers, and legendary views of St. Petersburg. The make-up artists from the show, “Russian Top Model”, will decorate the girls with makeup. Also, the girls will be sporting fur and lingerie from famous designers.

On July 12th, 2012, the international festival called, “Opera to All” (Russian: Опера - всем) will be in St. Petersburg! On Thursday, the opening of the festival will take place at Cathedral Square (Russian: Соборная площадь) near Peter and Paul Fortress. The performance will be a great opera called, “Life for the Tsar.” 

The festival organizers have proposed to bring the most elite arts, opera, to the parks of St. Petersburg. The performance of the opera will include the musicians of St.-Petersburg theaters, as well as domestic and international opera stars.

Sand Sculpture Festival 2012

On the beach of Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg will be a sand sculpture festival that is sure to amaze everyone who attends. From July 20th to the end of the summer, guests can come and see sculptures such as Winnie the Pooh, Lion King, Wolf and Rabbit, and SpongeBob, all made out of sand. This year’s festival is based on the theme of cartoon characters. Sculptors from all around the world have spend a long time forming these great works of art so that the people of St. Petersburg can enjoy them this summer.

Summer Bike Riding

Summer Bike Riding

From July 14th-July 15th, St. Petersburg will have the second academic night bicycle riding mass in the city. It will be held in the southwestern outskirts of the city. The festival will start at 23:00 on July 14th at Palace Square, and end on 03:00 on July 15th. The route designed by the organizers is intended to have the riders see the great scenes of the city such as old red brick palaces, factories, romantic landscapes, and royal gardens. The route is 35 kilometers long. Participation is free of charge, and you are required to have a bike, helmet, pump, and bike lock, rain gear and radio in case of emergency.

On Sofiyskaya Street, a 44 year old has started a project called “green office”. The workplace is outdoors and with wireless Internet and features almost everything in green. The coolest part of it is a sofa made from grass. Anyone who is a resident of St. Petersburg can use his or her laptop for free wifi at this "office". The city officials are trying to put free wi-fi in all libraries, reading rooms and youth houses in the Fruzenskiy region and Kupchino areas. The next project will be called “Wi-Fi bench,” to be first available in the new metro stations of “Bucharestoi”, and “Mezhdunarodnoi” stations, which open in late 2012.

Night Buses in St-Petersburg

St-Petersburg Night Buses

Starting on July 1st, 2012, from Saturday to Sunday, buses will operate throughout the night. This will be a test operation to see how many people will use these buses and if it is profitable or not. This additional transport will be fully duplicated subway lines, thus, the buses will run on the same route as the subway lines during the night.
