Before I die

Wall desires "Before I die..."

Every morning, I ask myself: "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?" And whenever the answer is "No", then I know I need to change something. - Steve Jobs ( February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011)

On the ground floor space of "Quarter" (Russian: "Четверть", Chetvert'), in mid-November there was a wall installed by a designer called, "Before I Die..." With a piece of chalk, anyone can complete the sentence "Before I die, I want...", sharing with the public their innermost desires and aspirations.

The unusual noteworthy artist first made this idea from New Orleans, Candy Chang. It so happened that Candy had lost a very close person to her, wondering about the meaning of life, and realized that the most important things in the world were not things but people and events. Then the artist picked up spray paint and using a stencil and struck the wall of one of the abandoned houses in New Orleans with the inscription: "Before I die, I would ... ". Surprisingly, the next day, when Chang came to look at his work, the wall was from top to bottom inscribed with desires and experiences.

After this, walls began to appear in many parts of our planet. Now the Russian version of the wall of the New Orleans artist appeared in St. Petersburg. In early November, wall mounted on the first floor of the "Quarter", and less than a day St.Petersburg residents filled out the wall painted in several layers.

Each day starts with a clean slate and everyone can share with others their innermost desires. But do not think that your dreams will just be erased. Every evening inscription is photographed and only then erases them to make room for other people's records.

Every day there are dozens of wall posts. Aspirations are different. Someone seeking to become president, while others, like in "The Matrix", is willing to "wake up ", someone wants to achieve immortality, or just to please parents and smile. Thus, the wall keeps the memory of dreams of St. Petersburg and reminds everyone about what is really important in this life.

Location: Chetvert' ("Quarter"), first floor, Pirogova pereulok, 18.
