Museum of Faberge

Museum of Faberge now in St. Petersburg

Today, November 19, 2013, in the renovated Shuvalov Palace, Russia 's largest private museum of the Carl Faberge collection has opened. The unique collection includes hundreds of works of art from the collection from the legendary jeweler. In addition, there will also be nine beautiful Easter eggs.

The Shuvalov Palace underwent a huge renovation project in order to host the collection. The restoration included gilding, chandeliers, marble fireplaces, murals and sculptures. In addition, in the course of the restoration, under multiple layers of paint and varnish, restorers found a unique tempera painting.

Now in fully restored historic interiors, residents and visitors will be able to learn about and see Russia 's biggest exhibition of works by Carl Faberge. The some of the exhibits are unique pieces from the collection of the American media magnate, Malcolm Forbes, who collected pieces by Faberge for half a century.

House of Faberge is a company with a long history. The world-famous jeweler Carl Faberge founded the company in 1842. At the time, unique jewelry factory products were stored under the roof of the Hermitage, but during the first years of Soviet power, the collection had disappeared or been destroyed. Another part, in turn, was sold abroad.
