FREE HUGS

FREE HUG FLASHMOB is going to take place in St-Petersburg on the National Hug Day January 21, 2012. National Hug Day was founded in the Unites States of America in 1986 and is now celebrated internationally on January 21 each year.

On this day people come out in the streets and offer free hugs to passersby. The main goal is to help people break the routine and show emotion in public which is especially an acute issue in Russia since Russians are the ones who don't often smile to strangers. It is a psychologically proven fact that human contact in the form of a hug is essential for healthy, social, and physical development of a human-being. One needs at least 7 minutes of hugging every day to feel happy and be in harmony with the environment. Extensive researches show that babies who had never been hugged before the age of 7, are never capable of deep feelings when they're grown-ups.

Event starts January 21 at 4 pm near Gostiny Dvor
