The Masterpieces of the World Museums in the Hermitage

The Masterpieces of the World Museums in the Hermitage

On March 16 in the main museum of St. Petersburg will be one of the most interesting exhibitions of the season - "Masterpieces of world museums." Visitors will be able to get up close to view every detail in the famous canvas of the French expressionist painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir "Dance at Le moulin de la Galette" from the Musée d'Orsay.

"Dance at Le moulin de la Galette" is one of many impressive works of Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and was first introduced to the public eye in the third Impressionist exhibition in 1877. To date, the painting "Dance at Le moulin de la Galette" is considered one of the most interesting works of the author and the main work of Renoir mid-1870s.

The path to the exhibition "Masterpieces of World Museums" will come to the Hermitage from the Orsay Museum, which is located on the left bank of the Seine. Up to this point, it was in the collection of the Museum in the Luxembourg Gardens and has been exhibited at the Louvre.

It is worth noting that the artist painted the canvas at a time when the studio was near the restaurant with a dance hall at the top of Montmartre, which was called "Moulin de la Galette." The artist asked his friends and acquaintances to post for his painting. A most impressive work has been and remains that Renoir was able to exactly represent a reflection of the sunlight filtering through the leaves of the acacia.

The Hermitage decided to insure the Renoir painting with 7 billion rubles.

Details of the temporary exhibition will be announced later.
