Mariinsky Theatre

Mariinsky Theatre was first built on Theatre Square in 1847 to 1848. It is one of the most beautiful and most respected theatres in Russia and the world. When coming to St. Petersburg, it is always a great idea to visit the Mariinsky Theatre to see a great show, and marvel in the beauty of the theatre.  Notably, one can see opera and ballet in the theatre. The building’s history has been center to royalty of the Old Russian Empire, and continues its tradition of being the home of the most talented performers around Russia and the world. The historical theatre has seen masterpieces such as: Tchaikovsky, Mussorgsky, and Rimsky Korsakov. 

The Mariinsky burned down in 1859, but was restored the next year. The theatre was named after the wife of Tsar Alexander II. The placement of the theatre is in the center of the city, and all around the theatre, the views and atmosphere are amazing. In the present time, the theatre is under construction to host another stage. After all the renovations, the theatre will continue its great history and beauty in the 21st century. 

The Mariinsky Theatre is so famous and well known, that the theatre decided in 2009 to launch its own record label. These recordings are live from the great performances at the Mariinsky, and can be found online at several websites or in stores on CD. 

If you are interested in the great Russian ballet, opera, or just in great architecture and history, then you must come see the Mariinsky Theatre. Its prime downtown location near Nevsky Prospect makes it comfortable to get to for its guests.
